Battering men tend to have many things in common:

1. Personality Traits

Jealously: Often imagine wife is having affairs.

Isolation of wife and family.

Controlling behavior.

Jekyll and Hyde personalities-No range of emotions.

Blames others for his abuse (partner); may have trouble with the law, at work, etc.

History of family violence, as child or with past partners.

Explosive temper; flies into a rage without provocation.

Deny the beatings of their severity; seems not to remember; will do whatever it takes to drive partner away, then whatever it takes to get her back. They will grab the kids; apologize profusely; send gifts; cry; promise anything (they know exactly what partner wants to hear – "I’ll go to counseling, go to church, stop drinking, never hit you again"); once partner returns, the performance is repeated.
